“When I think about homeless families with toddlers sleeping on the streets and veterans eating out of trash cans, I immediately want to help,” said Foundation Financial Group Event Coordinator Gregory Ludwig. “Most of our city’s homeless are good people who have been knocked down by hard times and need a hand up, not a handout.”

In preparation for the clothing distribution event, FFG employees organized a clothing drive in which the staff collected and donated over 200 pieces of clothing, including shoes and eye glasses, to Goodwill. Additionally, Foundation Financial Group purchased Goodwill gift cards that FFG volunteers offered to the families of their choice during the event. The gift cards were an important way to empower recipients and provide them an opportunity to shop for clothing that best suited their individual size and style preferences while enabling them to maintain their dignity. In addition to the company’s volunteer efforts, Foundation Financial made a significant financial contribution to Goodwill of the Coastal Empire.

“Hearing that 40 families are currently living in the Family House Toledo was a total wake-up call; I had no idea we had so many local families in crisis,” said Foundation Financial Event Coordinator Kimberly Watson. “That realization motivated me to get involved. And FFG made volunteering so easy by encouraging me and the entire Toledo team to get out and support the local community.”

FFG employees donated their own children’s gently used toys and clothing to the residents of the Family House Toledo. Foundation Financial volunteers also donated some of their time to ensure the residents received quality use of the library and computer labs. When Family House Toledo has no one available to supervise the library and computer labs, the facilities are closed to resident families which could prevent a child from completing a homework assignment or a parent from beginning a job search.

Family House is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing homeless families in crisis with professional, comprehensive housing and social services in a safe, caring environment. Family House provides for the immediate needs of families, but more importantly, equips these families with the tools to become self-sufficient. The goal at Family House is to help families in need find permanent housing, regain control over their lives, and reclaim their independence through education, community resources, and compassion.

Family House has been helping families since 1985. Annually, the emergency family shelter provides shelter, meals, and services to approximately 700 individuals, over half of which are children. The organization serves all family populations without regard for marital status, sexual preferences, race, ethnicity, gender, religious affiliations, etc. Family House is dedicated to maintaining a compassionate environment, valuing all individuals and treating them with respect regardless of the factors contributing to their homelessness.

Today, new treatments and advances in research are giving new hope to people affected by the disease.

The successful Shred-it program at FFG begins with data bins which are made out of 100 percent recycled-wood particle board. These secure bins are filled with sensitive data and then collected from FFG locations for shredding. The shredded paper is recycled. All recycled paper contributes directly to the production of a wide assortment of paper products such as paper towels and paper plates.  For every two security consoles filled with paper, one tree is saved.

Recycling paper doesn’t just save trees from being cut down. Producing paper from recycled material is less destructive to our environment than producing new paper. The environmental industry estimates that every ton of recycled paper uses 64 percent less energy and requires 50 percent less water than the same quantity of paper made from virgin wood pulp.  Producing recycled paper also causes 74 percent less air pollution and 35 percent less water pollution than virgin wood pulp paper.

Shred-it also supports FFG’s stringent security policies. Locked Shred-it bins are utilized in every physical Foundation Financial location to protect the personal information of all FFG customers. Additionally, employees maintain clean desks and adhere to strict computer and phone usage policies to preserve the security of sensitive information.

MuckFest MS features a five-mile course of rugged, muddy terrain filled with over twenty gigantic steel obstacles. Beverages, food, and music contributed to the festival atmosphere. MuckFest also includes a specially-designed mucky play area for the kids called Lil’ Muckers. MuckFest MS events are scheduled throughout the year in 18 U.S. cities. The MuckFest funds raised will be used to help eradicate muscular sclerosis.
